I like to grow things. This isn't unusual. I think a lot of people -- maybe most people -- like to grow things. It speaks to our nature. Creation and growth and not starving. I have a lot of houseplants -- too many most would say. I started collecting some of those outrageously expensive plants that seemed to crop up out of nowhere during COVID. I was basically given a Monstera Thai Constellation Philodendron a few months ago. The price was $120, which was fairly reasonable. One of the greenhouse workers put it on a severe discount when she saw my mom looking at it. I also have a Monstera Albo, which can have almost all white leaves. I bought a rooted node on Etsy and am currently encouraging it to grow its first leaves. I've got my eye on a Black Cherry Monstera, but those are still over $1000 for a plant and almost $100 for a leaf!
This always reminds me of something my father told me when I was young. He said you are only worth as much as you believe yourself to be. At times, I confess that means I'm worth nothing. Those times are rare though. I remember his words and I remember also that he told me he would give his life for me or my sister. Worth a life. I believe that is the greatest price you can pay for something. I remind myself of this as often as I can. I am worth enough that someone literally would have given his life for me.
I'm not giving my life for a Black Cherry Monstera. Maybe twenty bucks.
