Campobello Island

Campobello Island is this tiny bit of Canada connected to the coast of Maine. It's where Franklin Roosevelt and his family spent many summers. It's also home to literally hundreds of apple trees. Of course I have no idea if Johnny Appleseed is responsible for these trees -- I suspect not. While hiking my son and I were determined to try apples from every tree we happened upon. Every one. Most were horrific, but there was one tree  -- an unassuming little tree hidden in a tiny orchard of trees near the ocean. It had the sweetest, most interesting apples I've ever tasted.
